Actually, I retired at the end of this past school year,
but really what teacher feels retired until the first day
of the new school year? I was looking forward to that
feeling and was enjoying not having to go in and set up
my room and get lesson plans ready for the school year.
Then I got the phone call..."Can you start the year in a
self-contained primary Autism classroom?". Well, heck, of
course I could. That meant lesson plans, getting
materials ready, etc. The Autism team set up the room and
got everything else ready. A new teacher was hired by the
end of the first week and I trained her week two. So,
yesterday was officially my first day of retirement. I am
signed up to sub in the elementary self-contained special
ed classrooms, but don't anticipate too many jobs at the
beginning of the year. Once "IEP season" starts, I will
be working more. In the meantime my yard is calling me. I
am going to put more time and effort into my gardens.
I'll be traveling to visit relatives. I'll be spending
time and money on updates and upgrades to my house,
things I just didn't have the time for when I was
teaching. It sure feels good.
