Good day to all- Please pardon me for dominating the party
line, but I really need to holler about something.
The Great State of Alabama- my place of primary residence-
is in serious budget trouble, as usual- to the tune of being
about 200 million dollars short. Of course, our tax system
was written in Reconstruction times to protect large land
owners and corporations- extremely low property taxes, and
extremely high sales taxes. so the state is in constant
shortfall conditions.
To fix this year's budget shortages, the Alabama Legislature
in its august wisdom has done a couple of things.
1. They pulled $80 million out of the public education fund
budget to put in general revenues.
2. They imposed a $400 dollar a year tax on nursing home beds.
So to keep the rich folks and corporations- who could, by
God afford to pay their share but don't- the legislature is
taking money from kids and putting a burden on sick old folks.
I am disgusted by the elected officials in this place.
Thank you for your patience. I'm through now.
good afternoon to all- Ed Mashburn
