I grew up in the beautiful Hudson Valley, NewYork (about 90 miles north of
New York City) in the1950's when we had real "old fashioned" winters.
There was a blizzard or storm weekly or biweekly. Schools were closed or
delayed at least once a week. We often couldn't open our front door
because of the high snowdrifts. It was like playing Russian Roulette tring to
get out of our driveway onto the road due to the towering snowdrifts on
either side. We made forts, snowmen, snowballs, and snow angels. We
went sledding. So, is it me? They forecast a storm and that's all that's on
the news until a week after the storm has passed. Regular programs are
canceled because news reporters are out in the streets interviewing people
about what they think of the snow. They ask the kids how they like being off
from school. They show people shoveling or digging out their car and ask
how they feel about it. They stop people who are bundled up with scarves
and ask how they are dealing with the cold. They stand in the middle of the
street with their camera panning the winter scene and waste our time
making small talk about it for hours. Guess what?! It's WINTER!! People
need to man-up/ woman-up and deal with it!!! Am I the only one who feels
this way?
