Because California is so large...See MoreCalifornia is a very big place with very different schools. On the plus side for you, California passed Prop 28 a few years ago guaranteeing a certain amount of Art educational funding, so that helps to somewhat guarantee art jobs. Still, like much of the country, Art teacher jobs are sometimes hard to find.
Because California is so large, its very difficult to say a "California teacher" experiences X. You say you're politically motivated, so you should check out the areas you're thinking about moving to. We have conservative areas and some of the districts have leaned into the Moms for America thing though they are limited by the state. Its definitely a liberal state but it has conservative areas.
Cost of living is a big thing here in California. Often the politically blue areas like the Bay Area and So Cal are the most expensive. I'm originally from Michigan. I'm at step 15 on my district's salary schedule and make $150k per year. I work and live in Santa Clara county in the south Bay Area. I'm a teacher and I make more than High School Principals back home. I tell my teacher friends and they're sure they want to move out here for that kind of money. Then they research and they never do. With my spouse, we can afford a 2 bedroom condo. It's worth $800k. The high school teachers that I know back home own modern 4 bedroom single family homes with yards that cost $350k. Teachers who don't have two incomes and/or are lower on the salary scale. struggle to afford rent, much less own a home.
On the positive side, public schools do have teacher tenure earned after two years and our pension system is good. I believe Florida is lacking in that department. We have a diverse culture and geography. We have beaches but we also have cities, towns, farms, mountains, snow, desert, forests and even a swamp or two. Its a big place and people can usually find their niche here.

America77To add a subject, including PE, the quickest way is to take the CSET and then you will need to take an approved course in PE methods. UCLA has an extension course online. There may be others...
