I am seriously considering moving to CO in the next year or two, and am wondering about how transferring years of service in NM works for salary schedules in general and perhaps more importantly, for retirement from the state of CO. I realize it will vary from district to district as to the credit received on salary schedules, but any experiences you could share on this would help me get at least some idea. I can find no info. on the cde site about transferring or buying in for years of service for retirement calculations. Anyone know how this works? I have 12 years in in NM. Thank you very much for taking the time to help me out.

dave Stop confusing people. There is reciprocity between NM and CO so you shouldn't have a problem to get a CO license. And I don't believe you will not receive credits for teaching outside of CO, probably not all years, Denver will give you up to 10 years.

BeeBee It is true, you will not receive credit if you taught outside of CO. Even if you taught for 20 years in another state, if you get hired in CO, you will be considered probationary just like a first year teacher, and will be treated as such.
