This career has so drastically changed, AND NOT for the better. Teachers are bashed; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually everyday in this nation. Teacher appreciation week back in May was a joke. Teachers, just like firefighters, EMTS, and police officers are treated like crap by not only the politicians who play games with their livelihoods and retirements but also the very people they serve. It will take a MAJOR shortage of qualified educators in this nation to effect change in attitude. I hate people who keep comparing the U.S. education system to systems in countries like Finland, where students outperform U.S. students. Those countries hold educators and education in the highest esteem. Until the U.S. does that, nothing here will change.
