Hello,
I am a teacher on Long Island with 20 years experience and
MA+75 credits, teaching special education. I have a
husband and two teen age children. We are considering a
move to New Mexico (possibly Rio Rancho). Seven years
ago, my husband was diagnosed with a serious, rare genetic
illness and is disabled. I am the sole supporter of our
family and Long Island cost-of-living is making it very
difficult to make ends meet, even though teacher salaries
here are truly decent. My question is, can a family of
four survive on one teacher's salary in Rio Rancho. If we
sell our home here, it might be possible for us to buy a
little house there with little to no mortgage. If I am
paid somewhere between $40,000 to $50,000 thousand a year,
would the cost-of-living in NM make it affordable for me
to support my family?

Thank you,
Rosemarie

am currently working in Albuquerque while my mother and sister work in Rio Rancho. Rio
Rancho does pay a little better - we're talking a couple thousand a year difference, but APS
is a little more relaxe...See More

something like 150 elementary schools and 20-something high schools.
There are many charter schools ranging from scary (in terms of work
load, administration and financial stabilit...See More

I was curious if you ever made the move. I am a NYC high school
math teacher with 5 years experience but on step 8 because they
gave some experience for previous corporate work. I probably
have a Master's +45. I am single and was wondering if NM would
be a good place to relocate to and what kind of salary I coul...See More
