Does anyone here know what the state of South Carolina feels about high school or junior high school teachers with Ph.D.s?

I have a Ph.D. and a teaching certificate--but I don't know if the degree helps me or hurts me.
darnell Having a Ph.D can only help you. Plus you will be paid at a doctorate pay grade.

Alex Well that is good to hear--I come from Chicago, where the Ph.D. permanently disqualifies me from teaching at the secondary level.

I have one more question--does SC have a ESL/ELL endorsement/add-on to the teaching certificate? I have some experience in this area, and would like to follow up on it.

SC Teach Considering the MASSIVE budget cuts that many school districts are experiencing, your Ph.D. may, unfortunately, hinder your job search primarily because you require more pay. Many school districts would probably love to hire a Ph.D., but may not because oftentimes, they can hire two teachers with a Bachelor's vs. one Ph.D.
