First, good luck in your search. It's been tough for years to
get into a district! This is my experience with shared contracts:
Usually they are something like 51%-49%, with the 49% teacher
often getting NO benefits. However, s/he is allowed to sub on
the days off, and (in our district) encouraged to sub for her
partner in her absence.
I've seen one school doing an 80%-20% share in elementary
school, though that seems to me, to be very hard on the kids.
Also have seen 60-40% shares, which is more common (one
teacher does 3 days, the other does 2 days).
Most of the times, though, the reasons for shared contract is
that one (or both) teachers want to teach AND be at home with
young children.
In our District, and I believe this is statewide, when the
tenured teacher/s want to come back to full-time, they are
sent to the school that needs them, rather than to where they
want to go.
