Just wanted to quickly discuss my dilemma or possible
non-dilemma. My initial was set to expire last school
year after I successfully completed my requirements
except the DASA. I applied for my initial extension and
my professional. I was granted the initial extension and
waited. The regional BOCES certification assistance said
that my masters, in Curriculum and Instruction, was not
acceptable toward my professional certificate as it was
not in my content area and that I would need to take four
graduate courses in the content area. As I was updating
my information, I noticed that my TEACH account says that
my initial extension was issued on 9/1/14. Oddly, it also
says that my Professional (same certificate
number/different control number) was issued about two
weeks later. I went through my mail and noticed an
unopened envelope. Inside I found my professional
certificate matching the date, certification number, and
control number matching the TEACH information. It does
not list an expiration date, while the initial extension
does.
Here's my question: do they issue a professional with the
initial time extension, or did NYS accept my degree? What
would be the best way to verify that my professional is
valid and that no further measures need to be taken
except the professional development hours that are
mandated?
