Depends, do you teach Elementary or Secondary? Its really
basically the same, except secondary has more options.
For both you need a Bachelor's degree and full (Texas)
certification in any area. For elementary you then need to have
passed one of the elementary generalist exams. For secondary
in addition to the Bachelors degree and any teacher certification
(Texas) you need to have passed the specific content exam in
the teaching field OR have a graduate degree in the field to
teach OR have an undergraduate degree in the field to teach OR
have an undergraduate major consisting of 24 hours of which
12 hours are upper division courses. There is also a "house"
option for both but almost no districts use that option, since
taking the content exam is such an easy, and convenient route.

While an academic point mostly, the requirement is only to have
actually passed the content exam, you need not actually apply
    for the additional certificate.
