This is something to think about. Several years ago I left
the classroom for a central office position in another
district. I was offered the job during the spring semester.
I made it clear that that I would not leave my students
during the school year. I began my new job that summer. My
new district understood and respected my decision.
When I decided to return to the classroom, it was a similar
situation. I was offered the job during the spring semester,
and my new school wanted me to spend some time with current
teacher to get a feel for the school culture. I couldn't do
much because I was honoring my contract. Again, my new
school respected my commitment, and made a point of telling
me that my integrity was one of the reasons they hired me.

When I was hiring in my central office position, I noticed
whether or not an applicant had broken contracts. It wasn't
necessarily a deal-breaker, but it play into my decision on
occasion. The same was true of my colleagues. We wanted
people who we could count on.

Only you know the circumstances, but breaking a contract
should not be done with out some thought.
