    See if you can get a leave of absence from your NYC school.
    LI schools are notorious for flat leaving teachers after a
    year. Most districts are "union-free" so you'll be an at-will
    employee. No tenure protections either.

    But if you do make it, the LI schools offer wonderful
    opportunities to expand your pedogogical skills.
