The ornaments of our house are the friends who frequent it. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. Joy is not in things; it is in us. Who gives to me teaches me to give. There is no better time than Christmas to enjoy the wonders of nature, to share with others out of our abundance, and to celebrate the presence of special people in our lives. We shall find peace, we shall hear the angels, we shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds. Today’s Christmas should mean creating happy hours for tomorrow and reliving those of yesterday. Christmas comes softly, silently, sweetly – wrapping its loveliness about the world . . . and once again the most beautiful message on earth is repeated: Peace on Earth, Good will toward all. The gift without the giver is bare. It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmastime. Every time a hand reaches out to help another . . . that is Christmas. Christmas . . . a season of special joy, the most beautiful time of the year. Christmas is the time to let your heart do the thinking. What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. When shall all people’s good be each person’s rule, and universal peace lie like a shaft of light across the land. The joy of brightening other lives, bearing each other’s burden, easing others’ loads, and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts becomes for us the magic of Christmas. At this special time of year: Follow the children. Hear the joy in their laughter. See the love in their eyes. Feel the hope in their touch. The things we do at Christmas are touched with a certain extravagance, as beautiful, in some of its aspects, as the extravagance of nature in June. There is love at Christmas because Christmas was born of love. A very important part of the joy of living is the joy of giving. The winter season is a time of joy and celebration, of friends and family. It’s a time of reflection and a time for renewal, a time to share the dream of peace upon the earth and harmony among all beings. Let us hear one another. Let us see one another. Let us touch one another. All the world is young at Christmastime. And so we come again to Christmas, with all its color and joy, its magic and wonder, its spirit of goodwill and warmth. Christmas is here and now for everyone who is able and willing to receive it. If you didn’t get all the things you wanted, you can still be grateful for all the things you didn’t get that you didn’t want. The most vivid memories of Christmases past are usually not of gifts given or received, but of the spirit of love, the cherished little habits of the home. Happy faces, glowing with love – the Christmas decorations we should never put away! The future is in the hand of those who can give tomorrow’s generations valid reasons to live and hope. While we breathe, we hope. Hope smiles on the threshold of the year to come, whispering that it will be happier.
