Job Description

Wonowon Elementary School:
Wonowon Elementary School is a rural elementary school located at mile 101 of the historic Alaska Highway, 85 km north of Fort St John. The school has three teachers, one of whom acts as head teacher. Wonowon has a student population of 45, many of whom are of Russian-German background. The school has three classrooms, a gym, and outdoor play area that includes a skating rink. Teachers at Wonowon Elementary School receive an allowance on top of their annual salary and there is onsite teacher housing is available. Upper Halfway Elementary Junior School:
Upper Halfway Elementary Junior School is a K – 10 school located in the picturesque valley near the forks of the Graham and Upper Halfway Rivers, 130 km from Fort St John. 45 students are currently enrolled from the Halfway River First Nations Reserve and surrounding Russian/German speaking communities. Many of our students are English Language Learners. Teachers at Upper Halfway Elementary Junior School receive an allowance on top of their annual salary and there is onsite teacher housing is available. Prespatou Elementary-Secondary School:
Prespatou Elementary Secondary is a vibrant K-12 school located in a beautiful rural setting approximately one hour’s drive from Fort St John. The school’s population is just over 320 students from Kindergarten to grade 12. Prespatou School services a broad range of students from the communities of Prespatou, Buick Creek and Blueberry River First Nations. The students speak a variety of languages such as Low German, Beaver, Cree and Russian. Our students enjoy an active lifestyle at home and at school. The school building is the hub for the community with many events held regularly (meetings, gym nights, sewing, music, dinners, weddings). We value the relationship between school, community and our PAC. Teachers at Prespatou Elementary-Secondary School receive an allowance on top of their annual salary. Buick Creek Elementary School
Buick Creek is a rural elementary school in a picturesque small farming community 70 km from Fort St. John. The school has 2 teachers, one of whom is the head teacher. Buick Creek’s support staff consists of one Certified EA and an ECE who runs the Strong Start Outreach Program. Buick Creek School has a student population of approximately 15 students. Approximately 25% of the students have English as a second language or dialect. The school has a brand new playground and has access to an indoor skating arena. The parents and community are strong supporters of the school. Teachers at Buick Creek Elementary School receive an allowance on top of their annual salary and there is onsite teacher housing is available. - Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
- Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
- Classroom management techniques that maintain both an effective learning environment and for student dignity
- Ability to work with students having social/emotional/learning difficulties
- Ability to work with students
- Strong classroom management skills
- Integration of computer technology into the learning environment
- Committed to working with staff on the school plan with professional development
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and collaborative problem-solving skills as demonstrated by the ability to relate well with students, parents and staff members

- Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)
Compensation
- $1,400 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $2,000 for teachers from other areas
- $2,520.09 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
- Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 to $91,278
- Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
