The Busy Educator's Monthly Five...
by Marjan Glavac
Each month Marjan Glavac, professional speaker, teacher and author of The Busy Educator's Guide To The World Wide Web 2ND EDITION (Foreword by Dr. Harry Wong author of The First Days Of School) presents The Busy Educator's Monthly Five -- five websites for educators that are easy to read, simple to use and worthwhile to know.
Primary Sites Grades Pre-K to 3
Here are five sites for primary teachers:
Gareth Pitchford's Primary Resources
http://www.primaryresources.co.uk/
From the United Kingdom comes this invaluable resource of free, ready to use ideas, resources, worksheets and lesson plans. Some of the worksheets are in PDF files which can be read with an Adobe's Acrobat Reader on your computer. There are a lot of wonderful resources here. Help the site grow by sending in your lesson ideas, worksheets and resources. Well worth a stop.
Kinder Korner
http://www.kinderkorner.com/
It's not hard to see why Kinder Korner for grades Pre-K to 2 is a top rated primary site. There is a Back To School Section with resources such as First Day Checklists, Month to Month Themes and Beginning of the Year Assessment; a section on Thematic Units, a bookstore with links to resources and how to use the activities with your students, a Kinder Korner mailing list (past issues of the newsletter are available online) and links to other primary resources, sites and more. This Korner should be in every teacher's classroom.
Learning Page.com
http://www.learningpage.com/index.html
K-3 worksheets available here for the alphabet (print and cursive), calendar (days of the week and months of the year), money, time, measure (in imperial and metric measurement systems) and numbers and much more.
Mrs. Hall's 1st Grade Class
http://mrshall.cjb.net/
Grade 1 was never like this! Read Mrs. Hall's lesson plans, grade 1 curriculum from previous years, projects ideas and links to other grade 1 classes.
Loogootee Elementary West
http://www.siec.k12.in.us/~west/
K-3 school Loogootee Elementary West in Loogootee, Indiana, USA has a number of Internet projects, activities, articles and resources developed by staff and students. Visit them and see how they are integrating the Internet into the classroom curriculum. Take the time to read web editor Tammy Payton's magazine articles. You'll be glad you did!
