Re: Maine certification![]()

Hi,
You should contact the Maine Department of Education to
discuss certification with them. There may be reciprocity
with California, so you might not have to do any additional
course work. I taught in a middle school in Maine for 3
years back in the 1990s, and it was nice. People are
friendly, in general, and the scenery is beautiful. The
winters are long and bitterly cold.
I eventually moved back to CT for another teaching job where
I made significantly more $. Maine teacher salaries are
low, very low compared to California. From what I've heard
and read, Maine hasn't done well economically compared to
the rest of the country, and it's even poorer than when I
lived there. I've noticed that the prices of homes are not
cheap there anymore, either. Prices have gone up, just like
in the rest of the country.
Good luck.
