I do small groups during SSR time. While I am reading with
my groups, my other students are doing their "Choice board"
stations. I have 8 stations, each student completes 2
stations per day. Activities consist of LA and math topics
that they need to practice. If they finish a station before
the time is up, they then get their "bag of books" in which
they choose, and read from this. If at any time I need
extra time to finish a group, they will also read from their
bag of books. Every other week this becomes a station for
the students to choose, so that they can return old books
and shop for new ones.
I know this is not necessarily the 4 blocks way, but it
works for me and I am reading with every student on thier
instructional level.
With my higher readers, sometimes they will keep the same
(small group) book for 2 days and do a comprehension story
board or other activity with it.
