Re: What's the difference between 6 traits & Writer's Worksh
Posted by Lori on 6/24/07

I think it's important to note that neither writing workshop nor
six trait writing is a "program", nor are they mutually
exclusive. The six traits are quite simply the six key elements
that have been found to be essential in good writing. Lucy may
not refer to the "traits", but you can be sure she's always
talking about content and organization and vocabulary and
writer's voice (sometimes referred to as style, recognition of
audience, purpose, tone), not to mention mechanics. The six
trait "model" involves using assessment to guide instruction and
balancing writing instruction around all six areas. We teach
and practice the traits of effective writing within the context
of a writing workshop structure. Hope this helps to clarify...:)
