50 minutes unfortunately is way to short to cover both
reading and English. We have double that time in my middle
school, and it is still not enough. I would definitely talk
to the school about upping that time because there is no way
students can meet all of the literacy standards for both
reading and writing in that short of a time period.
For English, we use the 6+1 Traits of writing and are still
working on them. I use information from
http://www.madison.k12.wi.us/tnl/langarts/sixtrtcrsmtrl.htm
to help me plan out my mini-lessons. Good luck
