Re: 6 Traits and Collins Writing Program
Posted by Peter HS/PA on 1/17/09
It's a really hard battle to win, because Collins is marketed to
administrators, while six traits has been largely spread by
classroom teachers.
Collins is a nice quick, easy fix. I applaud the Collins folks for
turning a few pieces of teaching that most of us learned freshmen
year, combined with some proprietary bs to make it copyrightable
(skip every other line? really?!?!), and turned it into a money
tree. It's a crock, but it makes administrators feel pro-active
about teaching writing, and non-English teachers don't mind
because it asks so little of them.
But find data-- I doubt it. How could you collect any meaningful
data about either one?
