The downside is that it is used as a writing "program". It's NOT
a program. It's an assessment, and it's excellent. Six Traits
gives teachers and students a common language to analyze and
discuss writing (not anything new, just pieces that make sense).
It doesn't cover all elements of writing (like developing
characters and plot), but it does cover the basics that are
found in all genres. It's a great foundational assessment to
help kids improve the quality of their writing. Mae
