Post: somebody needs to write a survival guide
Posted by S. on 7/23/08
Okay. The paperwork, the 24 hours to get anything in, the
re-signing, the re-initialing, the endless copies of
things that you send, the 100's of dollars spent on Fed
Ex, the MONEY that you have to spend on hotels and food
(all out of pocket) until you get reimbursed. Why doesn't
anyone warn anyone that you need roughly $5,000 dollars to
accept a position with the DOD? Am I the only person in
the world who didn't know this? I am freaking out. I leave
in less than a week and I'm still not sure how I'm going
to pay for two weeks in a hotel that costs $120/night. I
know it's a great opportunity, but they need a survival
guide for those who don't have a clue. Everyone has told
me what a great experience working with the DOD is, but
right now I am not at all convinced. If the process of
getting in is any indication . . . a book of tips,
reminders, and an outline of the process, costs would have
been so helpful. Okay, I'm done whining. But,
seriously . . . it would be making the world a better
place.
