Schools need to change how we approach talent! Giftedness in its
traditional approach is from the "fixed mindset" that IQ is static.
As a STRETCh - Striving To Reach Every Talented Child - Instructor, I
have seen the data and test scores that prove that the "growth
mindset" by Carol Dweck is REAL! Our brains are an organ that grows
and develops over time. The Talent Code - describes that passion,
practice and perserverence is what grows a gift.
As the mother of four daughters - three of which have been full grade
accelerated, I ask the educational system to STOP calling
them "GIFTED." This implies that they should not have to work in
order to obtain good grades...that it comes naturally. They stop
taking chances for fear they will not be perceived as "Smart."
The question should not be, "Is my child gifted?" ...it should
be "Are my child's needs being met?"
