Distance Teaching Re: Not Everyone Can Become a NBCT Posted by jade on 6/03/08 The assessment center tests as well as the entries we submitted ARE THE STANDARDS to National Board certification just like we have standards for our students to be able to know and do before they leave our grade or course. I don't buy the poor test takers deal. If you ARE a poor test taker, you knew that you would have to compensate for that before you started the process. That was your responsibility. If my student is going along weak but steady all year but comes to the end of the year core battery of tests and does not make the grade, he should not go forward. However, he would have been informed all along about those expectations... just as we were. There were no surprises during this process. NB had it all before us. Even our dear friend Tracy who did not press the NEXT button... it was on the tutorial AND it was in the directions on the test. It may even be in our written directions... I don't know. I do know this... if I do not make the standards this year, I will try and try again next year and eventually, I will learn what I need to know to be NB certified.
