Make the lesson based on knowledge of students, using
assessment data you have and interviews and learning styles
of students. In other words, have some specific response to
the visual learners, the poor test takers, the excessive
talkers, those who lack motivatioin, those way above grade
level--and below, the non-readers, and the tech kids, etc.
With that knowledge, pair it with your research knowledge...
what Allington says, what Fountas and Pinnell says, what
Graves says, etc. Define the curriculum goals and state why
you chose those goals and where they came from.. national,
state, local, and school standards, strengths, and
weaknesses. Make sure you integrate another subject area
anddddd writing or music/drama/dance/art. Based on your
curriculum goals and knowledge of your students, plan
SPECIFIC instructional strategies you will need to teach the
lesson then align your instructional resources accordingly.
And finally, design multiple assessments that will check the
goals to be obtained. Perhaps you could put in there the
previous goals and where you think you are heading.. like
end of the road goals as well, just to give heads up that
you know what you're doing!
Long way to say... use data/knowledge of students, plan,
instruct, and assess, then make new goals... use
data/knowledge of students, plan.. etc. etc.
That's national board for ya.
