Re: What happens once you obtain NB certification?

My friend went through renewal, and although I didn't have
time to devote to her specifics, I got an overall feeling of
her "gold box" that it was tightly connecting the
professional developments in her past few years like
the "blue box" has you tightly connecting the teaching
process. That was just an overall feeling of it. It is not
the same as the first time, but the standards are still
there and the quality NB is seeking will still be sought
after.
Certainly, after you certify, you should turn to
another "struggler!!!" and offer them assistance and
support. Study the standards with someone. Insist that
they meet you 2 Saturday's in a row at the local library and
read the directions with them. Ask them how you can help
set up a filing system for them.
While I was working on Entry 2, I had already collected
articles I would read much later concerning the assessment
tests. Since the information is there, there is no point in
waiting so late to begin gathering information. Folders
should be set up for each of the entries and each of the
assessment tests and this can be quite helpful. Later down
the road, get with him/her and read the scoring guide
together. That will just help take some of the burden off.
I think you should be careful to not take over their NB
process though. It is a PROCESS. So avoid saying.. what I
did was.... Instead, say, how do you think you are going to
plan this out? Ask those teacher questions. Will this give
you enough evidence to write about? Let's look back at the
directions. etc. etc.
I hope everyone on this chatboard turns around and helps
someone else! Even if I don't pass the first go round, I
will help others who are trying to pass. This was not an
easy task so I can't imagine not searching and seeking out
assistance while one is going through the whole ordeal. I
enjoyed it all, helping, being helped, watching others
obtain help! It was all good to me.
