Post: Interesting Statistics

Okay, I confess. It's summer break and I can't stop
worrying/thinking about whether or not I'm going to pass
this year...on my third and final attempt.
There's often a lot of concern about how many people
actually pass after we all put so much money, time, and
energy into the process:
In an article by The National Academics, it says "From 1993
through 2007, 99,300 teachers applied for NBPTS
certification, and 63,800 earned the credential." This is a
64% passage rate.
So then I think to myself...I'll probably get my 2points
this time but what about when renewal comes around?! Will I
ever get to stop worrying about the NB process?
On the NBPTS site, it says "Since candidates for renewal
have already demonstrated that they are highly accomplished
teachers, approximately 9 out of 10 candidates successfully
renew their certification" It costs another $1150 and is
supposed to take about 40 hours.
I'm left wondering what about the 1 out of 10 who doesn't
get renewed...what about the 35,500 people who didn't
certify at all? I know that a lot of positive things come
out of this, but I also see that it could really dishearten
some great teachers who don't make it through. I'll be
keeping my fingers crossed until December that I won't be in
that group.
