I live in Missouri and it does matter here. What most
people do is get their teaching position and then get their
Masters degree, Masters +30, or PhD. Once you are hired
they can't do anything about it. That's what I did.
Our district highly encourages principals to hire teachers
that do not have advanced degrees because of the high
salary. They will let them hire teachers with advanced
degrees that have significant experience and great
references though.
They just don't want to hire a teacher with no experience
and high degrees, because an advanced degree doesn't
necessarily make you a good teacher. A lot of teaching is
experience.
Now, that doesn't matter for high school positions as much,
especially the sciences and math teachers. They will take
you no matter what!
