    Re: entry four
    Posted by jade on 7/05/08

Say you attended a workshop on teaching vocabulary through
reading 2 years ago. This upcoming year, if you implement
those strategies after getting some horrible grades for
vocab for Andrew, Brennan, and Carla and their grades shoot
up, you know that using the workshop positively impacted
student learning. [Maybe you used a worksheet they provided
to you for this lesson. Or maybe you used a specific
computer program they recommended and you can get a print
out from that program. Maybe you have a copy of a
certificate of your attendance on a half sheet that you can
attach to one of the evidences you submit that is also on a
half sheet.] Then, at 2 grade level meetings in a row, you
present your version of what you learned from the workshop
and one of your colleagues uses that strategy and reports to
you through e-mail the exact student impact in their
classroom, you have made a difference. (It does not have to
be colleagues as your home school either. It can be a
teacher friend you meet in another city.) And then you can
hold a specific workshop for the parents of your lowest
vocab group or your whole class or parents of your whole
grade level, etc. and you can present to them the strategies
you learned specifically from the workshop. Then, one of
the parents can respond back to a questionnaire you
specifically set up to monitor how the parent's use of your
    teachings has impacted their child.

That is just one of the many, many ways to go about this.
Continue to ask questions. Continue to brainstorm ways of
being successful. Continue to monitor ways of getting
    evidence of student impact.
