There is a lot of stress in this thread. Maybe we need to take a deep
breath and support each other rather than find fault. I believe that
phonics is a worthwhile way to teach. Gay Su Pinnell and Irene C.
Fountas present a phonics program which offers lots of diagnostics and
some pretty good lessons. Phonics was the way when teaching was
focused on what children learn rather than what test scores show. I
believe in teaching the children rather than the test. I also believe
I want to retire.... and soon!
Good luck with your phonics quest.
If there are any mistakes in my response, I am not really concerned
and you do not need to inform me of what you feel is faulty
communication.
