Re: The Worst Thing About NCLB

The worst thing about NCLB. Where to I begin Moving from NJ to
NC one of the worst things is that it is a national law with
local interpretation. The testing and how states have developed
and interpreted the law varies through out the country.
Plus the standards in lower elementary developmentally off. It's
great when second graders can identify irregular polygons, but
don't get upset when they come to middle school unable to
subtract, add, count money, or multiply. Teaching time is
precious, being a K is precious too. The rise in autism? Have we
ever thought that we are just not allowing children to develop
socially. I might have stopped talking at two or three as well
if the teachers were coming at me asking me to identify
perpendicular likes and the story elements of my favorite Bedtime
tale.
Reading First is a Lobbyist dream. It is like the USDA picking 2
drug manufactures and mandating all doctors use those ONLY 3
drugs for their patients no matter what the ailment may be.
