I've noticed that many of the ABE classes I've observed
utilize math packets that students work on during the
class hours. I teach evening classes and instruct from
the board for about an hour and a half to two hours of the
three hour class. When I sub for other classes the
students are at first shocked and then delighted at my
direct instruction approach. I'm curious about the
approach of ABE classes in your area. If direct
instruction isn't used, what is the reason?
