I am 47 years old. I have two college degrees in areas unrelated to teaching. I taught as a sub teacher for 8 years. For the last 5 years, I have been working in the field of security ( a dead end job). I want to change my life by becoming a GED teacher but don't know where to start. I live in NYC. In NYC, a teaching license is not needed for substitute teaching but subbing is per diem work. It makes no sense to return to that lifestyle. I want to help students earn a GED diploma. At 47, I have another 20 years of employment left before retirement is possible. What is your advice? The department of education in my state is not hiring in any capacity. How do I become a GED teacher?
