Re: Jonathan Kozol-NEW ARTICLE!!! two sides![]()

I teach at one of the schools he mentions and one thing he does not talk
about is personal responsibility....I have some really bright students but
they are not willing to put in the work of comparable students in the
suburbs...they are coming around...but...our school has tagging all over
it and computer labs have been sabatoged by students...it's not
politically correct to blame the community but they must take some
responsibility...parents of students who are more involved in their
children's education have students who do better...Period. I'm not
unsympathetic to Kozol's point of view...and much of what he says is true
but also, we need parents to push for AP classes and advocate for their
kids..too many of them think that a 10.00 / job is good enough for their
kids....there are two sides to this...he also misrepresented a couple of
things about our school
