Re: Question ref: Bullying![]()

Thank you for such candid remarks.
I have both of our youngest kids in great schools right now, both
have tenents based upon respect, responsibility and have great
mediator programs.
I asked my son's teacher last year if a mediator program could be
possibility - for students to learn mediation techniques - she
said then the kids get a "nazi" complex and that the program
really does not work.
I was so disgusted with her and the principal who said after 4
letters and 5 months that she had "talked" to the bullies. What
more can she do?
I have an attorney - we will go after the principal for
negligence and the district for the same as the administration
ignored pleas for assistance (3) letters.
When I asked to speak with the childs parents - we were told
that "it is a privacy issue" - then "our perception is very
different from your son's" as if he at age 10 (then) did not know
what was going on with him - we watched him sink into anxiety
before the final attack and deep depression after the last
attack - pulling him out of public school according to his
pediatrician, therapist and medical support staff was the best
thing we could have done for him.
He is in a Montessori program now with a mediation program - and
he is a totally different child, he has a great teacher who has
challenged him to work harder in school and he has flourished.
Piece of advice - the bad school treated us less than dirt, when
they refused to include us in any problem solving, include the
parents on issues such as these - parents parent and teachers
teach - is how I feel - there is no one better than a parent that
could take on another parent. Give us a chance to
intervene.....our words help or hinder your work in the most
basic ways, and we have enormous influence over our children they
are in fact mirror images of ourselves.
The issue would never gotten out of hand if the principal had an
informal meeting with us and the parents of the bullies....we
could have worked as a team to solve the problem.
but privacy.............
Kim
