I've taught for 20 years, and I've taught in Minnesota, Texas, Colorado
and South Carolina. I used to not worry a bit, but as I look around in
South Carolina, I see an INCREDIBLE excess of teachers (with the notable
exception of special education). If I were to quit my job today, I would
be replaced by noon tomorrow . . and people would be arm -wrestling to
get my job. The teacher shortage is undeniably a myth. Alternative
certification programs make me want to jump up and strangle someone.
