I am certified in ESL and English. I have had a hell of a time getting a job
after I left the public schools and returned to school my MA in English. (Old
district will not rehire anyone who left--for any reason.) Districts will train
(pay) their own teachers for ESL training so that students can sit in a
mainstream classroom, get little language attention, do less work, and allow the
district to say that the student is receiving help from someone knowledgeable in
ESL. This is the alternative to hiring competent ESL teachers.

If there are teaching shortages in places like Texas, why do I read about
thousands of people being screened out of teaching jobs with commercial teaching
interviews like those produced by Gallup.

Denver is advertising a teaching shortage. I called their ELA department. Six
times. Left two messages stating my experience and areas of certification. NO
ANSWER.
