Re: word wall

It's going to sound absolutely ridiculous, however, we
started using word walls 5 years ago, and needed to come up
with a way to encourage my kids to actually look at the
words that I painstakingly am required to put on a wall.
Sooooo...anytime one of the word wall words comes up, I
raise my hand to my mouth like I'm playing a bugle and do
a "dum du du duuuummmm" noise (I know, it sounds silly). My
kids then have to throw their hands in the air and
should "word wall!". We then direct our attention to the
specific word on the wall and then carry on.
This is with 8th grade, by the way, and as elementary as it
sounds, they really do get into it. In fact, one of my
classes added the wave to their word wall call. My
administrators think it's fantastic.
