Re: How to potty train this child, please help??

Who decided this child was ready to start wearing underwear and
using the potty? Obviously the child didn't. If he's not
ready, who is insisting that he do it? Parents? Boss? Yes,
staying dry at nap and keeping your diaper dry is a sign the
child has good control. But until he is ready and motivated to
go in the toilet, you need to be able to keep your room in a
    clean and hygienic state.

Does he wear underwear all weekend at home with his folks? Does
he stay dry all weekend? (Although accidents might happen.)

If you don't know the answer to those questions, I would ask
    them.

This is what I would personally do. And have done. I tell the
parents we are not having success with pottying at school. I
would ask them to keep a chart (or make a chart for them) asking
them to fill in answers to these questions every time the child
goes potty over the weekend. Pottying: 1. Was he wearing
undies or diaper? 2. Did child go into the bathroom on his own
initiative or did parents tell him it was time to try? 3. Did
child independently take care of his clothing (taking off and
putting on) when he goes in the bathroom? Accidents: 1. Was he
wearing undies or diaper? 2. What time? 3. What was he doing
at the time of the accident? 4. Was it upsetting to him to be
wet or did he continue playing?

Communication with the parents over this could be key to solving
the problem. I've had 2 things happen - sometimes the child is
wearing undies and going at home and when I had more information
about how they are doing with that- it helps me. OR the parent
tries to keep the chart and realizes how futile it is to be
trying to get him to go potty right now and steps back and waits
for the child to be ready.
