Hi, We couldn't read the rest of your message so don't know
how to help. Before this ever happens again, buy a couple of
flash drives. They're very inexpensive these days for very
large sized ones and they're much easier to carry around then
an external drive. You can keep an external drive at home
but carry flash drives with you when you're away from home
with your computer. If all of your files won't fit on one
flash drive then save your work into a few different files
and backup each file onto a different flash drive.
I don't see why closing your laptop would cause you to lose
all your files, maybe just the one you were working on.
Send another email describing your problem and maybe someone
can help.
