i am a new counselor in a newly founded school. so all staffs are new, all students are new. now, there is this one primary 1 student who always cries in the morning because he wants his mom to get inside the class with him. maybe this is quite normal considering that all are new for him, but it's already the second week and he's still doing it. i already tried to talk nicely to him, until i tried to playfully teased him ("come on, you're a primary student already.... you're not a kindergarten student anymore."). but he's still hugs his mom tightly and don't want to let her go. do any of you have advices for me to solve this? thx
Hmm... Drop the "playfully teasing" technique...please.

This child is experiencing separation anxiety. Do some google searches on the topic and you will find some strategies. Positive reinforcement will go a long way for this child.
