Dear Gentlemen; I am a Graduate student in the Grand Canyon University Master of Arts/Secondary teacher Degree program. I began working as a School bus driver, while finishing up my BA in history. The school district I worked for paid the drivers more per hour than they paid the teacher assistants. As a single parent I needed to earn as much as possible. I realize that discipline management is important issue for teachers and I am glad I am being taught to develop those skills. I am aware of research data that confirms that school bus drivers experience worse student behavior than classroom teachers. With that being said I would like to know why School bus drivers are expected to successfully manage the behavior of students that are challenging to teachers who have some training? Most morning and afternoon school bus routes are at least two hours long.
