Hey all! I have been a Spanish teacher for 7 years and am now making the transition into teaching English. I have recently moved to California (from MI) and I am finding that there is a need for English teachers in my area - but a lot of competition as well. Unfortunately, I only have experience teaching English during student teaching. I really don't want to substitute, so I was thinking of volunteering or/and observing English classes in my area. Other than that idea..I am not sure what else I can do to gain more experience...any ideas???

Thanks
Marjoryt Please, please consider volunteering for GED classes. They probably desperately need you. You might also inquire at the local community colleges and universities. Sometimes they hire folks with your level of training and experience as tutors and/or writing lab staff.

I also suggest you speak to whichever state agency in California handles ...See More
