I can relate to some of the postings here somewhat. My students
(primarily one class with no real discipline issues) decided to
begin a smear campaign of "complaints" to the administration and
school board/superintendent (aided slightly by a substitute
retired guidance counselor) earlier this spring which contributed
to my being removed from the classroom the end of March, though no
accusations of anything inappropriate were ever made or
substantiated in any way. Part of the issue was also related to
numbers of students not passing the course (which was true but
also not a surprise), along with political manuevering thrown in
by my DC (who has disliked me since taking over 2 years ago). The
mental stress, humiliation, hurt, and uncertainty definitely take
a toll on anyone involved in this type of situation. Though I do
have a contract for fall in the district, I want out and am
hopeful I can locate another position FAR away from where I am
now. What hurts the most is my principal knew this was all
baseless (I've been here 4 years) but either couldn't or wouldn't
do much to prevent it thanks to the new superintendent... needless
to say after @20 years teaching I've learned just how nasty school
politics can be - and am hoping my career isn't permanently
ruined - have applied for several jobs elsewhere lately but
nothing yet beyond interviews. Have thought about suing the
district but like another poster said teachers don't have lots of
money (and not currently a union member)... If anyone knows of a
strong district in the SE needing a Spanish teacher let me know :).
