Post: MA Unemployment Laws for teachers

    Posted on 7/22/09

My MA unemployment claim has just been denied and I'm not
sure I unerstand why. I was not renewed by the school I
worked for last year and my contract ended June 30, 2009.
I filed for unemployment and was told that as long as I
don't have reasonable assurance, I would be able to
collect. In the meantime, I have been teaching summer
school making less than I am allowed by unemployment.

Unemployment has denied my claim stating that MA teachers
cannot collect unemployment during the summer months or
school vacation weeks, even though I do not have another
job in September. Has anyone had any experience with this
that can please help me try to understand the law, or tell
    me what to do?
