I need some ideas on how to get the childen to read more. What are some of the things that you do to get them to read.

roundstanley One way to get them to read more is find books at their level and on their topics. I always use Book Wizard to find that type of book. It is easy to use and free. It also covers gr. lvl, lexile, Guided Reading, and DRA levels.

dc The one thing that has helped my students to start reading and expanding their reading "taste" is for me to actually read books and come to school excited about the books as I share with them. I have sparked the interest in my fifth graders on several series just by doing this.

Joman One thing that seems obvious but isn't always obvious is to give children time to read at school. I found that on average children read less than 10 minutes in school a day. Sad, but true.
