Hello, My name is Marilyn Preston and I am a doctoral
candidate at the University of Missouri. I am working on my
dissertation which will explore how public school teachers
who teach some aspect of sex education think about their
role in the classroom.

Participation in this study is completely voluntary, and
participants can withdraw at any time. Data collected from
this study will be used to enhance our understanding of how
teachers think about their role in the healthy development
of adolescents. Data will be kept confidential, and at no
time will participants be asked to identify the school or
school district that employs them.

Participation involves a one-hour interview, which will
take place at the convenience of the participant, and can
be conducted over the phone. There is the potential that
participants may be asked for a second follow-up interview,
but participants can decline participation at any time.

including teachers who only spend a minimal amount of time
teaching about sex, abstinence, healthy relationships or
sexuality – and you are interested in participating in this
