Seems like no matter how many times I santize my classroom, use santizer and wash my hands I am still catching colds from my students during the winter months. I don't know what else to do. I think teachers should get hazard pay.

Dear Jill You probably are not getting enough sleep and maybe need to take a look at what you are eating. You need to beef up the nutrients that help to build a strong immune system. See the link at the bottom of this post for more information.

Also, be sure that the air in your room is being circulated with fresh air being brought in all the time....See More

judy5ca Good advice below. Also, we scrub desktops and other surfaces weekly with antiseptic wipes. I have no research to back this up, but I think desktops are germy...and I'm healthier since I started doing this. Judy

KD Jill, I don't know if this will help you or not. I do not have a sink in my room, but 2 years in a row I had a lot of kids out sick. I started buying baby wipes and kept a pack next to our class box of tissues. The kids started using them and I noticed the absentee rate went down. Teri My first question is how long have you been teaching? I've noticed that most teachers get sick a lot during their first 2-5 years of teaching. After that, they tend to get sick only very rarely. (I usually joke that someone ought to do a study on teachers' immune systems!)

My second thought was to disagree with several of the other posters. I strongly disagree with using hand sanitizers or antibacterial wipes often. There were several studies on this when these products first came on the market--the results: the frequent use of these products can lead to more resistant bacteria. I use them only very infrequently.
