Do you have Asperger's Syndrome? Becasue your failure to grasp
the context reminds me of my condition at times, though it's
not too bad.
First, most 5YOs really don't comprehend "taste" inc lothing -
and this was a Kindergarten class. Second, I don't think cross
in this case means bad, though I can understand how someone
could think that.
Here is what I think happened. "cross dressing" is a term
meaning dressing different fromw hat the normal gender roles
are. See, kids in Kindergarten see things in black and white -
very definite boundaries. Girls wear feminine clothing, boys
where bants and shirts and stuff. If Picasso was wearing
something a little more frilly than most men would, or even if
he was just wearing aa kilt (though I doubt this since he
wasn't Scottish, but it would be a skirt to a child this age),
then if this child picked up the term "cross dresser" from his
parents, and was told what it meant, then it is very likely he
referred to Picasso as a cross dresser. Because he ws wearing
somethign that looked more like a girl would wear. And, to a 5-
year-old, that would be cross dressing.
